The Good and the Bad of Logos

The Huston Texans football team is a great example of a good logo in my opinion. Its simple with its colors and design, and it uses implied lines to connect the two shapes. The logo is also very appropriate for the location of the team and speaks to its fan base well.

This logo is simple, but has just enough texture so that it doesn’t look flat. I like that the orange could be used by its self, without the wording, and still be easily recognizable. The use of the complimentary colors, purple and yellow/orange make the logo easy on the viewer’s eyes. Its also a cute idea how they turned the orange into a pencil tip, incorporating the branding of the company and demonstrating its creativity.

This logo is just painful for me to look at. I understand the concept but personally it’s too much for my eyes to handle. This logo could also be very difficult to print on small surfaces or other colors, making the labeling difficult for the company.

This logo has identity confusion. It says nothing about what this company is. Is it a pilot’s origination that plays baseball on a flying sailboat? The wings could make sense for some for of pilot or flying company or organization, but wheel and baseball make no sense. As the viewer, I cant tell what this logo is for or how all the elements are supposed to work together.

The London 2012 Olympic logo is an example of a bad logo. I’m not sure what its supposed to represent. It honestly took me a few minutes to figure out that the shapes are supposed to be the year 2012. The problem is the letters are too geometric that they lost their intended shape. Also the colors used don’t make sense. They don’t represent the Olympic colors or the colors of the British flag. I think the designer went too modern and abstract on this. The It was a good idea to modernize something classic but this failed.
